Herndon Partners with Metro United to Give Players Pathway to Girls Academy

April 17, 2021 – Herndon, VA
Herndon Youth Soccer and Metro United announced their partnership this week to offer Herndon players the pathway to Girls Academy while expanding the talent pool of Metro United.

Metro United, based in neighboring Reston, partners with several area clubs to provide a platform for the most elite players of these clubs. The GA is a national league designed to elevate player development and identification through a unified structure and methodology of participating clubs governed by the league.

“This partnership furthers Herndon’s emphasis on player development and provides an exciting pathway for our players to compete on a national level in girls soccer,” said Executive Director Greg Andrulis.

Herndon’s partnership with Metro United waives all fees for HYS players participating in the 2021-22 season (with the exception of individual travel costs). Players are given access to all the tools needed to compete at the highest tier of girls soccer in the country. This includes Metro United trainings, GA games and events, professional fitness training, video analysis, college placement services and independent player development plans to assist players in reaching their goal of playing soccer in college, professionally or for the US Youth National Team.

“Metro United is delighted to announce our partnership with Herndon Youth Soccer as the newest member in our partner club network,” said Metro United Club Director George Hales. “Herndon has been a leader in youth soccer development in the VA/DC area for several decades and has established itself as a forward-thinking club which puts our players first.”

Each conference in the GA holds an invite-only player ID weekend event each year with classroom sessions, trainings and games to offer experiential learning for players on and off the field. The top 13-14 players in each conference play in cross-over matches at GA National and Regional events.

The GA’s mission is to highlight, identify and improve the top talented players competing in the GA in an elevated environment, exposing them to opportunities for success at the highest level of competition. The league’s vision is to be the platform for identification for the best players in the nation playing in the Girls Academy.

Girls Academy is comprised of U13-U19 Age Groups for the 2021-2022 seasonal year.
