UVA info for soccer prospects

Thank you for expressing interest in our women's soccer program at Virginia. You are very smart to begin investigating prospective colleges and universities at this time, however;

The NCAA does not allow Division I coaches to begin the recruiting process until a student-athlete begins her junior year of high school (September 1 of their junior year). At this point a coach can correspond with the prospective student-athlete (by letter, fax or email), but may not telephone them until July 1st after the completion of the athlete's junior year in high school. You can always e-mail us, but know that we cannot reply, unless it is general information such as this, until after September 1 of your junior year. Hopefully this information is helpful to you as you continue to move forward in the recruiting process.

Here are a few key academic considerations which you should be aware of since admission to Virginia is highly selective:

STRONG SOLID CORE COURSES - The number of quality classes you take during high school, (i.e. AP and Honors courses) is very important in the admission process at Virginia. Take the most challenging courses available where you can meet with success. Grades are important, but the number of solid core courses completed are weighted heavily in this process.

GRADES - Highest grades possible are always good, but as long as you are taking the most challenging courses available, straight A's are not required. B grades will not hurt you. Please understand that there are no extra bonus points for weighted courses.

PSAT/SAT/ACT - Virginia encourages you to take the PSAT/SAT tests, but will also accept the ACT. Remember that the best score you earn on any administration of the SAT or ACT is the one you can use. I encourage you to take these tests as early as possible.

Finally, one of the BEST ways for you to get a feel for Virginia and our soccer program, and for us to evaluate you as a potential prospect for our team, is to attend one of our Advanced Centers of Excellence camps. The next one is January 23, 2010.  Our camp web site is listed below and you can get all the details including registration forms directly at the site. We hope you can join us this summer.
