Wanderers Finalists at Hershey Invitational
In their second 11 v 11 tournament, the Wanderers did a great job with just 13 players over a very hot weekend making it to the finals against opponents from Pennsylvania and New Jersey. After the first day of playing two strong games and securing their spot in the semi-finals, the Wanderers enjoyed a day riding the rides at Hershey Park. After winning the semi-final 1-0 against a strong and fast Medford, PA team, the Wanderers went to the finals against an aggressive team from Brite Township, NJ. During this high paced, intense game, the Wanderers found themselves down 1-0 with time running out. In a bold move, on what was almost the final play, all 11 players went into the box on a corner kick to try and get the equalizer. A rocket shot of the post secured them a tie! After 2 sudden-death overtime periods, the two teams went into penalty kicks, where the Wanderers ended up losing after 14 shots and numerous great saves by each team! It was another great tournament and weekend for the girls who learned a lot about themselves and their great determination.

In the final, in a game that could have gone either way, they played a very tough team and ended up losing 1-0. All in all, a great learning experience and one that helps them get ready for the fall.

HYS LOSES ONE OF OUR OWN
It is with the deepest sorrow that we report the passing Thursday July 22nd of BOB BERLIN, longtime HYS Coach ,following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident 2 weeks ago. Bob has coached for HYS for more than a decade, often coaching 2 teams at a time for his sons Joe and Sean. He has literally touched hundreds of lives with his willingness to volunteer and help out where we needed him to, even coaching teams that he had no child playing on, just so that other kids could play.
HYS will accept monetary contributions to be used to help the family. These can be marked Berlin Fund in the memo of the check and can be mailed to HYS PO Box 464 Herndon Va 20172.
Also in honor of Bob, we will fund 2 Bob Berlin scholarships each season for 2 U19b Rec players who would otherwise not have the funds to play and do not otherwise qualify for scholarship assistance. U13b BOCA JRS WIN STATE CUP
