HYS’s own Amy Peterson receives the Town of Herndon Distinguished Service Award

Nominated by HYS Administrator Jody Rametta,  our own Amy Peterson won the Town of Herndon Distinguished Service award at the Mayors Appreciation dinner on April 12th.  The award is given to someone who for a period of many years and for multiple organizations has volunteered their time and really made a difference. Besides being a PTA President and volunteer for many other Herndon school and civic groups, Amy has served as a volunteer in HYS for 14 1/2 years. She has been an age group commissioner every single season of that 14 1/2 years ( current U19b commissioner) as well as been a coach, HYS board member and even spent a year as our ref assigner. She has spent literally thousands of hours helping to make sure our Herndon children would be able to play soccer and we congratulate her on this award.

HYS’s own Amy
Peterson receives the Town of Herndon Distinguished Service Award for her more than 14 years of service to HYS and the community.

Faye Lavenhouse ( current U13/14g commissioner and coaching a U10b team)
Jeff Slade ( current U16g and U19g commissioner and coaching a U19g team)
These 4 people are long time Age Group Commissioners and coaches who have always gone above and beyond just volunteering to coach their own child and stepped up where and when we needed it. Congratulations to them.

Herndon Connects with Messi and Martino

Herndon Technical Director Nick Arzani welcomed Lionel Messi, the coach Martino and the Argentina National Team during their stay in Washington, D.C. for an exhibition match against El Salvador in April . Nick Arzani, along with HYS coach Martin Sanchez, had special access to the players and coaches for nine days, collaborating and participating in the National Team’s training sessions. The team presented Arzani with an official Argentina National Team jersey signed by each player, including Messi.

“It was a great honor to learn from and interact directly with the world’s top coaches,” Arzani said. “We also had an incredible opportunity sharing the pitch with some of the most talented players in the world, like Messi,Mascherano Aguero, Pastore, Di Maria and Higuain.”

Arzani and Sanchez often act as ambassadors to the area for Argentina’s top professional clubs and staff.
